Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain accurate job cost accounting and monitor project profitability.
- Prepare and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and support revenue recognition using Percentage-of-Completion (POC) accounting.
- Review project budgets, committed costs, change orders, and cost-to-complete estimates.
- Partner with Project Managers to monitor project financial performance and forecast project outcomes.
- Oversee customer billings, including progress billing, AIA billing, retainage tracking, and lien waiver documentation.
- Reconcile construction project accounts and investigate cost variances.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Cook up annual audits, tax preparation, and bonding company reporting.
- Manage cash flow forecasting and monitor project-related expenditures.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff while improving accounting processes and internal controls.
Requirements
- Proven experience in an Accounting Manager or similar accounting leadership role.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of month-end close procedures and general ledger management.
- Experience preparing journal entries and completing detailed account reconciliations.
- Familiarity with financial statement audits and the ability to support audit documentation requests.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Strong analytical skills with careful attention to accuracy and deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA or CMA preferred.
- 5+ years of accounting experience with at least 3 years in the construction industry.
- Previous experience managing accounting staff.
- Strong understanding of: Job Cost Accounting, Work-in-Progress (WIP) Reporting, Percentage-of-Completion (POC) Revenue Recognition, AIA Billing, Retainage Accounting, Construction Payroll, Cost Forecasting & Budgeting.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
