About the role
The Accounting Manager supervises all general accounting functions, including coordination of daily accounting operations, directing the monthly close process, treasury operations, and preparation of accurate GAAP-basis financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annual).
Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily financing activities with the Company’s operations team, mortgage loan brokers, title companies, and warehouse lenders.
- Prepare quarterly operating and cash forecasts, and various financial analyses as requested by the Controller.
- Supervise the accounting team, assisting with daily general ledger posting, interest rate lock derivative calculations, pricing analyses, sales commission and production bonus calculations, and mark-to-market valuation of loans held for sale inventory.
- Review and maintain all balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring intercompany and bank account balances are reconciled.
- Document accounting policies and procedures, and establish controls to deter fraud.
- Prepare accurate financial management reporting, including consolidated financial statements.
- Oversee disbursements review and control, including payroll, shared services, debt reporting, lender covenants, and income tax reporting.
- Train, develop, and guide the accounting team.
- Work with a third-party valuation company to independently value retained mortgage servicing rights.
- Interpret legal agreements (MLPAs, AMAs, forward purchase/sale agreements) for appropriate accounting recognition.
- Coordinate distribution of financial information for regulatory compliance and field examinations by warehouse lenders, tax professionals, audit firms, and other third parties.
- Direct and supervise:
- The monthly accounting close process and revenue recognition.
- Reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts across corporate business units.
- Administration of treasury functions with corporate and business unit accounts.
- Maintain organization of all supporting information and direct loan transfers to the servicing group.
Requirements
- Multiple years in the accounting profession, preferably with supervisory and mortgage lending experience.
- Strong accounting, financial reporting, summarization, and communication skills.
- High-level experience with accounting information systems, treasury management, and internal controls.
- Solid understanding of resource requirements for financial tasks.
- Experience managing a professional staff and reporting to mid-level or senior management.
- 5+ years of financial experience, advanced or accounting degree.
- General ledger and closing experience, treasury and disbursement management experience.
- Above-average proficiency with accounting software systems, exceptional GAAP knowledge, and strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Familiarity with LOS System (Encompass) and GL System (NetSuite).
