We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee accounting operations for our construction projects. The role will lead the accounting team, ensure compliance with GAAP, manage project accounting and cost controls, and provide accurate financial information to support operational and strategic decisions. The ideal candidate has strong construction industry experience, excellent managerial skills, and a track record of delivering timely financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day accounting operations for multiple construction projects, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Supervise and mentor a small accounting team; assign tasks, review work, and support professional development.
- Ensure all accounting practices comply with GAAP and company policies; maintain internal controls and documentation.
- Prepare and review month-end and year-end close processes, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Oversee project accounting activities including job cost tracking, change order accounting, revenue recognition, and contract billing.
- Collaborate with project managers and operations to analyze budgets, forecasts, and cost variances.
- Produce timely financial statements and support ad hoc financial analysis for leadership.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors during audits and tax filings.
- Implement process improvements, accounting system enhancements, and best practices to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role; experience in the construction industry required.
- Solid knowledge of GAAP, month-end close, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Proven experience with construction accounting concepts including job costing, progress billing, retainage, and contract revenue recognition.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with construction ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate) is a plus.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate across functions and lead a small team.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and a focus on timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
