Accountant II - Remote
About the role
As an Accountant II, you will prepare, review, and analyze financial information to provide accurate and useful insights to management. This role is key to maintaining and growing UNFI’s financial health as we transform and scale. You’ll ensure our financial analysis and statements are built on constant communication with internal and external partners, delivering the most current statistics for our business health. By identifying trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities, you’ll play a critical part in our success as North America’s premier grocery wholesaler.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and reviews income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and various other accounting statements and reports.
- Analyzes and collects financial reports and records, making recommendations related to the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
- Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
- Assists in evaluating, recommending, maintaining, and monitoring appropriate internal controls.
- Assists in the maintenance of internal control documentation.
- Interacts with internal and external stakeholders in responding to inquiries or report requests.
- Conducts special studies and develops or recommends accounting methods and procedures.
- Assigns work to staff and external vendor partners.
- Coordinates accounting matters with other departments and locations.
- Utilizes computer systems to input, retrieve, or display accounting information.
- Reconciles and reviews assigned accounts.
- Identifies accounting problems, researches possible solutions, and forms conclusions to present to management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
- 2–5 years of general accounting experience.
- Strong intermediate understanding of job requirements and responsibilities.
- Ability to complete assignments with minimal supervision.
- Experience supervising staff and collaborating with others to achieve desired results.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and report financial data.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and detailed information to others.
- Ability to work effectively and represent the company’s interests with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrates credibility, initiative, and commitment.
- Acts resourcefully to ensure work is completed within specified time and quality parameters.
- Proficiency in personal computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word in a Windows environment.
- Ability to work in a team environment to achieve desired results.
- Good judgment, especially in situations where direct supervision may not be immediately available.
Work Environment
- This is a remote role where the associate will primarily work from their residence. While remote associates are not required to work from an office regularly, they may be asked to visit UNFI locations for business reasons or at their manager’s discretion.
- Minor travel may be required to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for meetings or business purposes.
- Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. The role involves sitting for long periods at a desk or computer terminal, with regular use of hands, arms, and office equipment such as calculators, keyboards, and telephones. Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required.
