Access Services Representative - Per Diem

About the role

This position involves coordinating patient registration, verifying insurance coverage, and securing financial responsibility while ensuring compliance with EMTALA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Process patient demographics and conduct face-to-face interviews
• Obtain and verify insurance information
• Facilitate collections through estimates and negotiations
• Handle ED calls and manage patient valuables
• Update demographic and regulatory data
• Support regulatory compliance and ensure accurate documentation
• For ED units: facilitate transfers, create charts, and monitor supplies
• Ensure patient safety through identity verification
• Provide effective communication and customer service to support department productivity and patient satisfaction

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in a business service setting
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Preferred: high school diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of insurance, billing, ICD-10, CPT codes, and regulations such as EMTALA and Joint Commission standards
• Certifications like HFMA are advantageous
• Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes
• Interpersonal skills, tact, and empathy
• Ability to prioritize tasks, work effectively in a team, and adapt to patient needs
