Academic Success & Undergraduate Advising (ASUA), Peer Advisor - Student Assistant
About the role
Under direct supervision of the Manager, Retention & Graduation Initiatives, Student Assistant Peer Advisors assist in providing academic advising to students in all Undergraduate Majors at CSUSB. Peer Advisors assist in helping students prepare their class schedules, advising them on their requirements for General Education and their major. Student Assistant Peer Advisors interpret PAWS, start and update a myCAP for students, explain academic policies, offer campus and community resources, table to promote advising, create informative material regarding advising, put together presentations and facilitate advising information sessions, host ASUA drop-ins, and perform general office operations and clerical duties.
Responsibilities
- Helping students in person and via Zoom
- Presenting basic advising information at new student orientation
- Create an Advisor Proposed Education Plan with the advisee
- Assisting students in registration
- Referring students to online and on-campus resources
- Schedule Appointments
- Answering telephone and email inquiries
- Assist with ASUA advising projects and workshops
- Attend monthly staff meetings
Requirements
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate).
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate).
- Eligible to work in the United States.
Qualifications
- Admission or registration as a CSU student.
- Available to work over the summer, fall, and spring.
- Must be at least a Sophomore Standing (30 Semester Units Completed).
- Must have a declared Undergraduate Major.
- Strong preference for at least a 2.5 overall GPA, or greater.
- Must be able to work mornings or afternoons Monday-Thursday between the hours of 8am-5pm over the summer and Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm during the academic year.

Pay
Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.90 per hour.
Schedule
Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal
Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).
Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).
