Assistant Director of Student Success, Undergraduate Advising

About the role

The Assistant Director of First-Year Student Success (ADFYS) works closely with the Student Success team to support undergraduate academic and personal success. Reporting to the Director of Student Success in the Provost's Office, the ADFYS contributes to new student orientation, student success seminars, and other assigned duties.

Responsibilities

• Holistic Advising:
  • Supplements academic advisors by meeting with students on transition to college, personal interests, academic exploration, and high-impact experiences (e.g., research, experiential learning, study abroad, living-learning communities, internships).
  • Provides 1:1 student success coaching to help students achieve personal and academic goals.
  • Supports students experiencing personal and academic challenges.
• Collaborating and Coordinating:
  • Works with School/College advisors and central units (e.g., Newbury Center, Undergraduate Pathways Programs, Educational Resource Center, Dean of Students Office, Global Programs, Student Wellbeing) to create a seamless support network.
  • Connects students with campus resources for academic and personal wellbeing.
• Programming:
  • Creates and implements inclusive programming to foster engagement and a sense of belonging within the BU community.
• Student Success Seminars:
  • Leads seminars that meet general education requirements, promoting academic resilience and student wellbeing using the Life Design framework.

Requirements

• Master’s degree and 3+ years of experience in higher education, or bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in higher education.
• Interest in student success, particularly the first-year and transfer experiences.
• Experience advising students or student organizations.
• Strong interpersonal skills and exemplary written and oral communication abilities.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Capacity to build positive, collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

Additional Details

• Eligible for a remote-work arrangement up to one day per week.
• Some evening work may be required.

Pay

Expected hiring range: $65,000 – $72,000. The salary of the finalist will be set based on factors including departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and internal pay comparison.
