Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure): Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor in Small Animal Primary Care
About the role
The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor of Clinical Associate Professor position in small animal primary care medicine on an 11-month appointment, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2025.
Responsibilities
- Mandatory 4-week rotation in wellness, general, and preventive care including medicine, basic dentistry, and surgery.
- Exposure to senior veterinary students in a high-quality general practice environment.
- Commitment to excellence in patient care, service to clients, and clinical teaching.
- Strong leadership and communications skills.
- Join a team of primary care clinicians and technicians, interacting with over 60 faculty members in the small animal hospital, over 40 interns and residents in other medical and surgical services, and approximately 180 senior veterinary students.
- Time commitment of approximately 75% to clinical instruction and patient care in the hospital, with 15% for classroom / laboratory teaching, 10% for scholarship, and 10% for service.
- Approximately 50% of clinical effort will be devoted to general surgery and dentistry, and 50% to medicine.
- Passion for teaching and role modeling skills required of primary care practitioners in a private practice setting, including general surgical skills and dentistry, preventive care and medicine.
- Interest in small exotics, pocket pets, and birds is welcomed but not required.
- Team-centered atmosphere and excellent communication skills with animal caregivers, faculty colleagues, veterinary students, house officers, technicians, and staff.
- Commitment to holding oneself and colleagues accountable to the VMBS code of professional conduct.
Requirements
- DVM degree (or equivalent).
- Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Texas.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the general practice of small animal medicine.
- Board certification (American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, American College of Zoological Medicine, American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine) will be considered favorably but is not required.
