Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure): Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor

About the role

This is primarily a teaching position with opportunities for hospital-based patient care commensurate with the candidate’s area of expertise. The anticipated start date is Fall 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver large animal content in multiple courses, including the Professional & Clinical Skills course.
  • Participate in instruction of the integrated and highly experiential DVM curriculum.
  • Support the curriculum as a course coordinator.
  • Dedicate 60-70% of the overall effort to instruction in the pre-clinical curriculum.
  • Divide the remaining 30-40% of time between clinical service in the Large Animal Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, academic service, and/or scholarly activities.

Requirements

  • PhD in veterinary education or related field.
  • Broad experience in large animal species.
  • Commitment to a team-centered atmosphere and excellent communication skills.
  • Licensed or eligible for regular or special license to practice veterinary medicine in Texas.
  • Board certification or eligibility to take a board examination in a specialty recognized by the AVMA American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS).

Qualifications

  • A DVM (or equivalent) degree.
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, a DEA certificate and USDA Category II accreditation.
  • Board certification or eligibility to take a board examination in a specialty recognized by the AVMA American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS).

Skills

  • Excellence and creativity in education.
  • Excellent communication skills with animal caregivers, faculty colleagues, veterinary students, house officers, technicians, and staff.
  • Commitment to the VMBS code of professional conduct.
