About the role
The Academic Advisor, ASAP (Accelerated Study in Associate Programs) delivers advisement support services to assigned students on different aspects such as course selection, academic planning, and career exploration and development. The role monitors student progress, tracks the use of support services, and provides proactive outreach to faculty, staff, and community partners to remove barriers and promote success.
Responsibilities
- Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic support services
- Counsels students in academic difficulty, including but not limited to; students on academic warning, academic restriction, and academically dismissed by the College, and those returning after being academically dismissed
- Conducts regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success
- Maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs
- Provides advising for prospective, new, and current students in person, virtually, or via telephone/email, including registration, individual advising sessions, classroom visits, and group sessions
- Delivers personalized coaching/advising to students through in-person and digital platforms (i.e. email, phone, and virtual 1:1 meetings) to include degree planning, course selection, and addressing academic concerns
- Supports annual recruitment of new students into the program
- Organizes periodic special events and programs for students, faculty and staff
- Conducts or supports delivery of student seminars on issues of importance to students
- Guides students in their awareness of careers based on major, career paths, academic interests, skills, and goals for their professional development
- Maintains accurate and secure student records
- Uses analytical and evidence-based decision-making to develop and interpret reports, analyze trends, and translate data from multiple sources into actionable outreach strategies that support student persistence, progression, and timely degree completion
- Reviews academic success checkpoints, share information regarding students, and facilitate evidence-based interventions
- Collaborates with faculty, staff, and campus departments to coordinate student support efforts and ensure comprehensive advising
- Supports students in connecting with campus resources, such as student disability services, and mental health services
- Develops and facilitates workshops or group advising sessions on academic planning, transfer preparation, or career readiness
- Supports new student onboarding, orientation, and registration activities
- Promotes an inclusive and supportive advising environment, demonstrating cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse student needs
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in higher education, student personnel/services, education, psychology, human resources or related field required
- Minimum of three years of full-time experience in academic advisement

- Strong organization, project management and facilitation skills
- Ability to enter, monitor and interpret student data accurately
- Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office

- Ability to prioritize work requirements and demonstrate independent decision-making
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, and the public
Requirements
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls
- Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine
- No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions
