About the role
The UNT College of Engineering, located at Denton’s Discovery Park, is dedicated to providing an educational community that prepares career-ready students who meet critical industry needs. Responsibilities
- Advise students, as necessary, on best degree/major/minor/certificate and career matches.
- Advise students, as necessary, on college transition challenges, academic transition challenges, information related to student interests/aptitudes/abilities/etc. and other issues related to overall student success.
- Accurately advise students regarding university requirements, individual program requirements, academic policies/processes, and academic deadlines, including special student populations and applicability of transfer credits.
- Confers with faculty or administrator as needed.
- Documents advising appointments and student interactions in the advising software and provides follow up with students, as needed.
- Promotes good will and quality customer service to students and is effective in handling a variety of student situations.
- Consults with other advisors (or administrator) as needed to resolve challenging student situations/issues.
- Accurately updates, edits, and processes college admissions status, degree audits, graduation applications, and other student records/forms via the university systems and advising software.
- Supports events and initiatives including admissions, orientations, commencements, recruitment events, retention activities, on/off campus presentations, and/or college programming.
- Supports adequate participation/coverage, and the development of strategies/procedures that promote advisor efficiency, productivity, and positive team engagement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Strong presentation skills
- Strong problem solving skills
- Ability to learn and use a variety of simple to complex computer applications
- Ability to communicate effectively with various populations verbally and in writing
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to work independently

- Knowledge of degree programs and education requirements, admissions, and status
- Ability to conduct interviews and counsel with students
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with established University regulations and policies
- Ability to make computations and tabulations rapidly and accurately
- Tact, diplomacy, judgment required in dealing with others
