Academic Advisor and Coordinator Student Services - Gies College of Business

About the role

This role will play a vital role in enhancing the student experience across multiple residential graduate programs. The responsibilities include providing day-to-day support to students, ensuring the operational success of administrative processes such as onboarding and advising throughout all phases of the learner experience. Additionally, the role involves leading communication outreach and transition initiatives to promote learner retention.

Responsibilities

• Provide Academic Advising Services for student program of study
• Build a solid knowledge of all program curriculums in order to advise students
• Serve as the lead Student Services resource for at least one program including modifications of requirements and approval of optional concentrations
• Create curriculum study plans with specific requirements
• Advise students about specific academic program and graduation requirements of the Department and Graduate College
• Advise students about the policies and procedures of the Department and College
• Explain and illustrate use of the U of I Integrate registration
• Utilize the University’s Banner, Grad Recs, and Slate systems to enhance student advising
• Use and interpret U.Achieve (DARS) reports
• Inform and direct students to other appropriate institutional resources and services when applicable
• Aid students with resolution of academic problems in collaboration with program leadership
• Collaborate with Gies program leadership and Grad College to monitor students' progress toward the academic degree and facilitate communication with probation/at-risk students to strategically plan for future success
• Aid with compiling of student data when necessary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Two years of experience in an advising environment, including advising students; understanding student development issues as they relate to advising and the student experience
• Experience working with students from all backgrounds
