Abraham Lab - Associate Specialist
About the role
The Associate Specialist will be focused on basic research, specifically working with Dr. Roselle Abraham's team to understand the mechanisms underlying metabolic remodeling and cardiac fibrosis in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), using mouse models and human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
Responsibilities
- Mouse colony management
- Culture and cardiac differentiation of human iPSCs
- Production of lentivirus/adenovirus/adeno-associated virus
- Cell transduction
- Cell line generation
- Live cell imaging
- Histology
- Microscopy
- Biochemical assays in cells, isolated mitochondria, and tissue homogenates
- PCR, qPCR
- Data analysis
- Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in mouse models
- Maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Freezer monitoring
- Maintaining laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Bio/environmental safety compliance
- Supply ordering
Requirements
The ideal candidate should be passionate about learning new skills and work well independently or as part of a team. They should have a strong interest in the cardiovascular system.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to effectively present scientific results to other scientists
Skills
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate proficiency in a variety of laboratory techniques and technologies, including but not limited to mouse colony management, iPSC culture and differentiation, viral production/transduction, biochemical assays, MRI, and data analysis.

Pay
A reasonable estimate for this position is $75,600-$88,000.
