About the role
As a Special Electronic Devices Repairer in the Army National Guard, you will maintain and ensure the operational readiness of sophisticated equipment, including night vision devices, electronic distance and azimuth-orienting tools, battlefield illumination devices, and nuclear, biological, and chemical warning and measuring instruments.
Responsibilities
- Test instruments, navigational controls, and simulators
- Read technical diagrams and manuals
- Replace parts and ensure quality control measures
- Troubleshoot and inspect equipment
- Supervise and train other Soldiers (advanced level)

- Interest in mathematics, problem-solving, and electronic equipment repair
- Strong attention to detail
Civilian career opportunities
Training in this role can prepare you for civilian careers with the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or the National Weather Service.
Training
Job training consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you learn basic Soldiering skills, followed by 25 weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Training includes classroom instruction, hands-on equipment practice, and field exercises under simulated combat conditions. You will earn a regular paycheck and qualify for tuition assistance during training.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
Requirements
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED certificate
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
- Must pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
