About the Role
Directs the activities of a recognized manufacturing department with wide scope of responsibility to maintain production schedules and ensure quality standards. Oversees trials of new parts, troubleshoots machine problems, and conducts root cause analysis of customer problems and defect reduction. Manages departmental productivity, documentation, and corrective actions.
Responsibilities
- Plans work, makes assignments, and trains new employees.
- Administers company policies for the assigned department.
- Communicates with all levels of management, including Japanese staff.
- Presents materials and information to groups.
- Documents departmental productivity and defects, taking corrective action as needed.
- Motivates employees, resolves conflict, and evaluates performance.
- Aids in continuous improvement processes.
- Coaches and counsels team members on various aspects of their duties.
- Issues corrective action (discipline) to employees as appropriate.
- Maintains awareness of environmental policies, management systems, and objectives by attending required training.
- Performs all tasks in accordance with EMS procedures and practices to minimize environmental impact.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Interviews, hires, and trains employees.
- Plans, assigns, and directs work.
- Appraises performance, rewards, and disciplines employees.
- Addresses complaints and resolves problems.
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of TPS (Toyota Production System).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Manages section with special knowledge (Daily Management).
- Communicates with other departments to achieve targets using PDCA and problem-solving methods.
- Responds to abnormal situations and solves problems understanding QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery).
- Trains Team Leaders, Lead Operators, and Team Members.
- Follows company rules and policies.
- Demonstrates good attendance and sets an example for team members.
Qualifications
- 3 years of Team Leader experience or equivalent manufacturing work experience.
- Over 70% process experience and working knowledge.
- Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
Skills
- Communication: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Clear, concise written and verbal skills. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.
- Mathematical: Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Ability to express numbers as decimals, convert numbers into percentages, and perform operations using positive/negative numbers, ratios, or averages.
- Technical: Experience using Microsoft Office systems, including Excel and Word.
- Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to walk; frequently required to stand, talk, or hear.
- Occasionally required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Schedule
Full-time, Sunday through Thursday, Third Shift – 9:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Occasional overtime throughout the week and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
