About the role

The role involves spreading, leveling, smoothing, and finishing surfaces of poured concrete, grouting columns, patching voids, cutting expansion joints, and installing various items according to plans and specifications. The position requires familiarity with self-leveling underlayment and monitoring environmental factors affecting concrete curing.

Responsibilities

  • Use appropriate hand and power tools to place concrete into finished forms to specified textures; vibrate, level, smooth and shape surface of concrete; finish concrete surfaces to specifications;
  • Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinder or chisel and hammer and patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound;
  • Install all other items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications;
  • Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and strait edge;
  • Signal truck and or pump truck driver to facilitate pouring concrete, and move chute as needed over concrete forms and/or rebar;
  • Apply hardening and sealing compound to cure surface of concrete, and waterproof or restore surface;
  • Be familiar with self-leveling underlayment's;
  • Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process;
  • May be asked to assist carpenters, and rod busters with any necessary tasks for the installation of concrete structures;
  • Engage with your work team to ensure we achieve zero injuries;
  • Understand that no job is so important that your safety and that of your crew will be compromised;
  • Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional;
  • Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed;
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazards;
  • Understand, support, and follow lockout tag out procedures;
  • Attend site specific training and assure you follow all procedures as outlined in training;
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment;
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately;
  • Listen to co-workers suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations giving full attention to what they are saying and take the time to understand the points being made, asking questions and providing feedback when appropriate.

Qualifications

  • 4 or more years of experience working as a concrete finisher, carpenter, or similar craft, and a strong working knowledge of the civil crafts;
  • Experience in the erection of all types of concrete structures;
  • Must have working knowledge of auto-level and transit for accurate layout and verification of finished grade and placement measure, cut, assemble and install forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts;
  • Construct built-in-place or prefabricated wooden forms, according to specifications for molding concrete structures;
  • Erect built-in-place forms or assemble and install prefabricated forms;
  • Insert spreaders and tie-rods between opposite pieces to maintain specific dimensions;
  • Anchor and brace forms to fixed objects using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks and timber;
  • Build wooden structures such as scaffold supports and frame shelters according to specifications and project specifications;
  • Pour concrete into finished forms to specified textures;
  • Vibrate, level, smooth and shape surface of concrete;
  • Finish concrete surfaces to specifications;
  • Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinder or chisel and hammer and patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound;
  • Install all other items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications;
  • Have a strong understanding of safety protocols and be able to engage in safety-related processes and programs as requested;
  • Have a strong understanding of the importance of effective communication and be able to listen to co-workers suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations.
