2nd SHIFT MAINTENANCE MECHANIC $23-$33 ($1.00 DIFFERENTIAL)

Wage range: $23–$33.00/hour plus $1.00 shift differential. Full-time, 2nd shift position reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor.

About the role

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all production and utility systems within the facility. Core equipment includes motors, gearboxes, pneumatic controls, conveying systems, boilers, air compressors, CO₂ or Freon-based refrigeration units, and plant support infrastructure. The role requires strict adherence to USDA guidelines, GMP standards, and all facility safety protocols, including LOTO, confined space, and hot work procedures.

Responsibilities

• Report to Maintenance Supervisor and collaborate with Maintenance, QA, and Operations supervisors.
• Maintain and repair all production equipment, including pumps, tumblers, evaporators, dryers, valves, baggers, injectors, slicers, and packaging machines.
• Inspect, operate, or test machinery to diagnose malfunctions.
• Inspect mechanical equipment to locate damage, defects, or wear.
• Test mechanical equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• Dismantle machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts using hoists, hand tools, or power tools.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and other tasks.
• Replace worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical controls and components.
• Order and maintain inventories for parts to service all plant-wide equipment.
• Communicate with technical support for equipment issues that cannot be resolved in-house.
• Document schematic and diagram changes to keep plant records current.
• Report daily work orders and activity reports, ensuring all time is accountable.
• Follow up on pending equipment repairs and communicate with management and the team.
• Read electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic schematics, and blueprints.
• Identify problems and provide solutions while adhering to food safety and safety guidelines.
• Share knowledge with the team and participate in ongoing training.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Minimum three years of experience in plant maintenance or a related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Proficiency in verbal and written communication, with basic computation skills.
• Ability to read and understand written and/or verbal instructions.
• Experience with electronics, instrumentation, refrigeration, electrical, and general mechanical systems.
• Current forklift operator’s license or ability to acquire and maintain required certification.
• Ability to work in a quick, efficient, and safe manner while following all company rules and GMPs.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to lead by example with honesty, drive, initiative, and a positive attitude.
• Familiarity with equipment and parts, including proper nomenclature.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks in a timely fashion.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, and sitting; must be able to stand for at least 2 consecutive hours and up to 8–12 hours per day.
• Repetitive lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting above 50 pounds may be required.
• Frequent pushing and pulling of up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, and turning; occasional squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and balancing.
• Frequent reaching, grasping, and manipulating in a repetitive manner.
• Ability to work in congested areas and climb stairs and ladders.
• Exposure to temperatures ranging from 0°F to 130°F.

Work Environment

• Use of non-slip footwear and rubber gloves required due to slippery and wet floors.
• Constant exposure to moving mechanical parts.
• Potential contact with ammonia, acids, caustics, chlorines, paints, particles, oils, lubricants, steam, pneumatics, fumes, hazardous gases, and sealing compounds.
• Noisy working conditions requiring hearing protection.
