Maintenance Mechanic II - $32.75/hr., + $1.00/hr. Shift Differential for Off-shift Hours
We are currently looking for a Maintenance Mechanic to be based out of Hobart, IN. Reporting to the shift Maintenance Supervisor, this person will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on the plant’s machinery and auxiliary equipment, participate in the plant’s 5S program, safety objectives, and facility maintenance according to company standards.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate systems or facilities to determine maintenance or repairs needed.
- Assist team members with technical issues or advanced problems.
- Prepare for production shifts, ensuring proper changeover needs are met.
- Work with Value Stream Managers and Production Supervisors to plan work priorities, obtain supplies, and assess skills needed.
- Develop and execute Preventive Maintenance (PM), Predictive Maintenance (PdM), and Critical Parts List (CPL) programs on all plant assets.
- Track and log all maintenance work, checklists, worker time, materials, and other resources used.
- Respond to emergency situations to ensure the safety of plant facilities and equipment.
- Operate mobile equipment such as fork trucks and manlifts.
- Ensure compliance with operating procedures, maintenance, repairs, and safety guidelines.
- Identify enhancement opportunities and suggest solutions for improvement to management.
- Conduct work in alignment with Atkore’s mission statement, core values, and standards of conduct.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in maintenance in medium to heavy industrial environments.
- Ability to lift and manipulate up to 60 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours per day.
- Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems (pneumatic, hydraulic, power trains, etc.).
- Experience in fabrication, including burning, cutting, and welding (stick and MIG).
- Experience checking and performing alignments on drives, transmissions, and rotating machinery.
- Knowledge of best practices for effective rigging.
- Knowledge of various types of lubrication and lubrication systems.
- Basic experience in manual machining using lathes and milling machines.
- Advanced experience in operation and maintenance of drive train systems.
Within 3 Months
- Gain certification for operating fork trucks and other mobile equipment.
- Acquire basic tube mill process knowledge.

Pay
As of the date of this posting, the current pay for this position is $32.75/hr. Placement in the range depends on competencies, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business needs.
