26-27 AY Temporary Faculty Pool (Lecturer) - Enology

About the Role

The department seeks qualified candidate(s) to teach undergraduate courses such as:

• ENOL 105 - Advanced Sensory Evaluation of Wines
• ENOL 151 - Winery Equipment
• ENOL 164 – Wine Analysis and Production
• ENOL 166 – Cellar Operations
• ENOL 168 – Introduction to Vine, Grape and Yeast Biochemistry
• Other classes that may be identified as needed to fulfill educational goals of current students

This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. The number of positions varies from semester to term, depending on student enrollment and funding. Appointments are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term, with potential for short notice.

Appointments are contingent upon budget, enrollment considerations, and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States; California State University, Fresno does not sponsor Temporary Faculty for work visas.

Responsibilities

• Adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2
• Preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams
• Teaching all classes as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid)

Qualifications

Required

• A Master's degree in Enology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or Food Science with an emphasis in Enology, or a closely related field (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent)
• Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Commitment to and potential for teaching excellence
• Strong oral and written communication skills

Preferred

• Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, demonstrated through prior teaching experiences, teaching evaluations, or other evidence
• Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level
• Experience in wine production, processing, analysis, or evaluation
• Experience with small-scale winemaking practices
• Ability to operate and demonstrate winery equipment
• Knowledge of preparing students for careers in the wine industry

Pay

The salary range for Temporary Faculty with a Master's degree is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum of the range. Actual monthly salary will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per academic term.

Schedule

• Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
• Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed. The pool will remain in place for two academic terms; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply.
