26-27 AY Temporary Faculty Pool (Lecturer) - Anthropology
California State University, Fresno’s Department of Anthropology invites applications for its temporary lecturer pool. The department offers undergraduate training in Archaeology, Cultural, and Biological/Forensic Anthropology, with hands-on opportunities through the Forensic Anthropology lab, internships, and field schools.
About the role
The department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses, particularly in biological and archaeological anthropology and general-education offerings. Appointments are contingent on budget, enrollment, and collective-bargaining provisions; work authorization in the U.S. is required (visa sponsorship is not provided).
Responsibilities
- Adhere to university and system-wide academic policies.
- Prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams.
- Teach assigned courses in the scheduled mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid) for the full semester.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Anthropology or a closely related field from an accredited institution (or foreign equivalent).
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, evidenced by prior teaching experience or evaluations.
- Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
- Experience coordinating and running archaeological field schools for undergraduates.
Pay
Monthly salary ranges are set by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358). For a full-time load (15 WTUs), the range is $5,507–$6,677 per month for candidates with a Master’s degree; starting salaries are typically at or near the minimum. Actual pay is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.
Schedule
The pool remains open continuously; appointments are temporary, part-time, and made as needed—often just prior to the start of a term. Applicants may need to begin teaching on short notice. The pool covers two academic terms; reapplication is required to remain in the pool beyond that period.
