About the role

The Department of Laboratory Medicine, Biochemistry/Serology, NHS Lothian is seeking a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join their team in Blood Science.

Responsibilities

• Experience working in a Laboratory Medicine Laboratory as a BMS Biochemistry/Serology
• Interest in development and improvement of services
• Undertake 24/7 duties in the appropriate departments after competency review
• Provide cross-site cover when needed

Requirements

• HCPC registration and sufficient laboratory experience at Biomedical Scientist level (Specialist Portfolio) in Blood Science for Band 6 post
• HCPC registration and willingness to undertake the IBMS Portfolio in Blood Sciences or Biochemistry for Band 6U post

Qualifications

• HCPC registration
• Sufficient laboratory experience at Biomedical Scientist level (Specialist Portfolio) in Blood Science
• Willingness to undertake the IBMS Portfolio in Blood Sciences or Biochemistry

Skills

• Experience in a Laboratory Medicine Laboratory
• Interest in service development and improvement
• Flexibility to provide cross-site cover

Pay

• From 1st April 2026, the full-time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week.
• Part-time hours will be reduced pro-rata.
• There will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate to maintain pay levels.
