2027 Automation Engineering Co-Op
This Automation Internship offers opportunities for two terms: January 2027 – August 2027 and May 2027 – December 2027.
About the role
The Automation Intern will determine and develop production processes for manufacturing operations aligned with team objectives. This role involves collaboration with product engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions to support automation initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Proficient in 3D modeling of mechanical components and systems using Autodesk Inventor
- Troubleshoot and diagnose robotic system issues
- Understand and modify programming for automation systems
- Assist in the design, prototyping, and testing of small machines
- Collaborate on technical documentation and reporting for engineering projects
- Participate in projects related to machine design, prototyping, and creating work orders with Bill of Materials and other relevant annotations
Requirements
- Actively enrolled in a 4-year degree program in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field
- Coursework or experience in manufacturing processes, machining, metrology, statistics, or quality engineering
- Experience with 2D CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar), engineering principles, and mechanical simulations
- Familiarity with industrial safety standards and protocols
- Basic programming knowledge in Python or C#
- Understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics in mechanical systems
- Ability to assist with rapid prototyping and 3D printing
- Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to mechanical issues
- Prior internship or hands-on manufacturing/shop experience

- Data & statistics: Excel, Minitab, JMP, Python (pandas)
- ERP/MRP: SAP, Oracle, NetSuite (if applicable)
- Quality/Process: SPC, FMEA, CAPA, 8D
