This internship offers valuable insight and experience into Municipal Government Human Resources.
Responsibilities
- Prepare new hire orientation packets.
- Assist with maintenance of employee files.
- Assist with recruitment and benefit-related functions.
- Provide administrative support to the Human Resources Department.
- Audit employee files to meet compliance standards.
- Assist with Public Safety Promotional Process development and implementation.
- Participate and assist with special HR projects.
- Act discretely when working with highly confidential Human Resources information.
- Attend HR Department meetings as needed.
- Attend job fairs and hiring events.
- Perform other tasks/projects assigned by the Human Resources Director.
Requirements
- Undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in Human Resources or a related field.
- Strong interest in Human Resources.
- Coursework in Human Resources/Organizational Psychology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and relationship-building skills.
- Attention to detail and teamwork skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel); ADP HRIS is a plus.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks independently.
- Must be well-organized and possess good follow-up skills.
- Prior office experience preferred.
- Pleasant personality with the ability to interact well with other team members.
- Available for a minimum of twenty (20) hours a week.
- Must provide proof of legal right to work in the United States.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Willing to work overtime and cooperate with the department’s workload.
- Willing to attend continuing education courses and comply with City of Prattville rules and regulations.
- Must submit to drug screenings for this safety-sensitive position.
- Must accomplish the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, in a timely manner.
Work Environment
- Job duties are typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping.
- Employees frequently lift light and occasionally heavy objects and distinguish between shades of color.
