Purpose Statement
The DAAPS Coordinator supports the instructional process by developing student success in academics (e.g., reading, writing, language, math) or skills (e.g., art, music, physical education). Responsibilities include supervising students, developing lesson plans, delivering instruction, collaborating with staff and administrators, and communicating with parents or guardians about student progress.
Responsibilities
- Administers subject-specific assessments and tests to evaluate student competencies.
- Advises parents/guardians on student progress, expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support school improvement plans.
- Counsels students or refers them to appropriate personnel to address performance, health, or personal issues.
- Demonstrates pedagogical approaches to engage learners and meet individual student requirements.
- Differentiates classroom instruction to address individualized learning within established lesson plans.
- Directs student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, or student workers to support classroom programs.
- Instructs students in academics through a defined course of study to improve their success.
- Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitors students in various educational environments (e.g., classroom, campus, field trips) to ensure safety.
- Participates in meetings (e.g., district, staff, departmental) to convey or gather information.
- Participates in PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.
- Prepares written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Reports health and safety issues to administrators or appropriate agencies (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, substance abuse).
- Responds to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel.
- Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, or administrators to resolve issues or provide information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- Skills in administering assessment instruments, operating office equipment, and using software applications.
- Ability to apply curriculum and instructional techniques, prepare and maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge of algebra/geometry, technical information, and curriculum requirements.
- Understanding of age-appropriate activities, lesson planning, child development, and behavioral management strategies.
- Ability to schedule activities, gather and classify data, and use job-related equipment.
- Flexibility to work with diverse individuals, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Problem-solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans.
- Ability to establish constructive relationships, maintain confidentiality, and work as part of a team.
Qualifications
- Job-related experience is desired.
- Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area (or equivalent).
- Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate core content area certification.
- SEI Endorsement required.
- Criminal Background Clearance and valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Work Environment
- Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and fine finger dexterity.
- Job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing.
- Performed under some temperature extremes and conditions with exposure to risk of injury or illness.
