2026-27 Academic Support .05 Teacher - Added Section - Shadow Mountain HS
Location: Shadow Mountain High School – 0.05 FTE (2 positions) – Interim position starting immediately.
About the role
The Teacher – High School supports the instructional process by developing student success in academics (e.g., reading, writing, language, math) or skills (e.g., art, music, physical education). Responsibilities include supervising students, delivering group and individual instruction, collaborating with staff and administrators, and communicating with parents or guardians about student progress.
Responsibilities
- Administer subject-specific assessments to evaluate student competencies.
- Advise parents and guardians on student progress, expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
- Assess student progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and meet classroom objectives.
- Counsel students or refer them to appropriate personnel to address performance, health, or personal issues.
- Demonstrate pedagogical approaches that engage learners and address individual student needs.
- Differentiate classroom instruction to address individualized learning within established lesson plans.
- Direct student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, or student workers to support classroom programs.
- Instruct students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
- Manage student behavior to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitor students in classrooms, on campus, and during field trips to maintain safety.
- Participate in district, staff, and departmental meetings to convey and gather information.
- Participate in PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.
- Prepare written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Report health and safety issues to administrators and appropriate agencies (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, substance abuse, or inappropriate behaviors).
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns or direct them to appropriate personnel.
- Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators to provide information or direction.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- Skills in applying assessment instruments, operating office equipment, using software applications, and maintaining accurate records.
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional techniques, age-appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, and behavioral management strategies.
- Ability to schedule activities, gather and classify data, work with diverse individuals, and adapt to changing work priorities.
- Ability to establish constructive relationships, maintain confidentiality, exhibit tact and patience, work flexible hours, meet deadlines, and work as part of a team.
- Problem-solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans, including independent interpretation of guidelines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
- Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate core content area certification.
- SEI Endorsement required.
- Criminal Background Clearance and valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Job-related experience desired.
Work Environment
The role requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine finger dexterity. The job involves 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing, with exposure to temperature extremes and some risk of injury or illness.
