About the Role

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize individual and team success. The coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. The role involves working with students interested in dance, providing practice support, and guiding the team to success during the sports season.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and supervise a total sports program for dance.
  • Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport.
  • Examine new theories and procedures pertinent to coaching dance.
  • Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.
  • Advise, coordinate, and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
  • Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
  • Work evenings and weekends as required for practices, games, and events.

Requirements

  • Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
  • Complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
  • Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (dance).
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of dance.
  • Ability to attend on-site work mandatorily.

Qualifications

  • Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Proven experience in coaching, preferably in a school setting.

Pay

Minimum Salary: $8,250.00 | Maximum Salary: $8,250.00

Schedule

Year-round contract. Work involves evenings and weekends.

Reports to: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
