2026-2027 SY - Athletic Coach - 6th Grade Girls Basketball

About the Role

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize individual and team success. The coach must demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. The role involves organizing and supervising the 6th Grade Girls Basketball program, working with students, providing practice support, and ensuring team success during the sports season.

Responsibilities

• Organize and supervise the total sports program for 6th Grade Girls Basketball.
• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
• Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport.
• Serve as a role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.
• Examine new theories and procedures pertinent to coaching and apply them as appropriate.
• Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
• Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
• Work evenings and weekends as required for practices, games, and events.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
• Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
• Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (preferably major sports).
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball.
• Ability to organize and supervise a sports program.

Pay

$4,000.00 for the winter sport season.

Schedule

Contract length: Winter sport season. Work involves evenings and weekends for practices, games, and events.

Reports to: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
