Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (application details)
- Must complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
- Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports)
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
Responsibilities
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success
- Demonstrate and instruct behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment
- Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation
- Work with students interested in sports, providing practice support and advice for team success
- Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
- Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal
Work Environment
- On-site attendance is mandatory
- Evening and weekend work required
- Reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals
