Pay

Salary: $2,500.00

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalency
• Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (details)
• Must complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
• Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports)
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball
• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program

Responsibilities

• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training
• Promote individual and team success while fostering character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment
• Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
• Work with students to provide practice support and guidance for team success
• Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation
• Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principals
• Serve as a positive role model for student athletes through instruction and actions

Schedule

Evenings and weekends required for practices, games, and events.

About the Role

This position reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals. On-site attendance is mandatory. The goal is to develop student athletes both athletically and personally while ensuring a successful sports season.
