Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (how to apply)
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
Qualifications
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
- Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports)
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball, with a commitment to staying current on new theories and procedures
- Ability to serve as a positive role model for student athletes through instruction and actions
Responsibilities
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success
- Promote character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes
- Stay updated on coaching best practices through clinics, observations, and consultation
- Provide practice support and guidance to ensure team success during the sports season
- Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
- Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principals
Schedule
Evenings and weekends required for practices, games, and events.
Reports To
Athletic director, with final evaluation in conjunction with high school principals.
