Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7–12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (details)
- Must complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
Qualifications
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
- Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball and a commitment to staying current with new theories and procedures
- Serves as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions
Responsibilities
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success
- Promote socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes
- Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation
- Work with students interested in sports, providing practice support and advice for team success during the season
- Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
- Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principal
Schedule
Evenings and weekends required for practices, games, and events.
Reports To
Athletic Director, with final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
