About the role

Special Education Generalist – Self-Contained Classroom (Autism – Primary)

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences for students with autism in a self-contained primary classroom.
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with parents, administrators, and related service providers.
• Assess student progress through formal and informal evaluations; adjust instruction based on data.
• Manage classroom behavior using positive behavior supports and evidence-based strategies.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and positive learning environment.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and specialists to support student inclusion and success.
• Adhere to federal, state, and district policies and procedures related to special education.

Requirements

• Valid Nevada Department of Education license with an endorsement in Special Education (Autism or Generalist).
• Experience working with students with autism in a self-contained or inclusive setting.
• Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and compliance.
• Ability to use data to drive instructional decisions and modify curriculum as needed.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development in evidence-based practices for students with autism.
