About the role

Special Education Generalist – Self-Contained classroom teacher responsible for providing instruction and support to students with disabilities in a self-contained setting.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the IEP team.
• Deliver standards-based instruction aligned with Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS) and IEP goals.
• Adapt and modify curriculum, materials, and instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
• Assess student progress through formal and informal assessments; use data to drive instruction.
• Manage classroom behavior using positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) and de-escalation techniques.
• Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and families.
• Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and professional development.
• Complete required documentation, including progress reports, IEP updates, and compliance records.
• Utilize assistive technology and specialized equipment as needed.

Requirements

• Valid Nevada Department of Education license with a Special Education endorsement (Generalist or equivalent).
• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Demonstrated experience working with students with disabilities in a self-contained or similar setting.
• Knowledge of Nevada Academic Content Standards, IEP processes, and special education laws (IDEA, Section 504).
• Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical interventions safely when necessary.
