About the role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities by empowering them to be as active in their lives as they can. Their support needs include, but are not limited to, household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, etc., so that they may always look and feel their best. The DSP may be asked to assist them to their medical appointments, banking, assist them to become active members of their community, attend outings, administer medications, follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans and goals, and to follow medical guidelines that are in place.

The DSP must be able to safely evacuate individuals from the home in the event of an emergency. DSP workers must maintain certifications, handle job related duties in compliance with Agency policies and follow all DDS regulations/policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist with household maintenance, meal preparation, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, and other personal care tasks
• Accompany individuals to medical appointments, banking, and community outings
• Administer medications as directed
• Follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and established goals
• Adhere to medical guidelines and safety protocols
• Participate in paid training programs including New Employee Orientation, CPR/First Aid, Safety Care, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP)
• Complete program- and person-specific training at the individuals’ home

Requirements

• 18+ with reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to speak, read, and write in fluent English
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program and individuals supported, which may include holidays, overnights, or double-shifts

Schedule

• Wednesday: 1:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m.
• Thursday: 2:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m.
• Friday: 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.
• Saturday: 9:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m.
• Full-time, 40 hours per week

Pay

• $17.50–$19.00 per hour
