Zapoteco Interpreter

About the role

LanguageLine Solutions is hiring a Zapoteco-English phone interpreter to work remotely from home. This is an independent contractor position and not eligible for employee benefits.

Responsibilities

• Handle interpreting sessions promptly and professionally
• Render correct concepts and meanings according to established protocols
• Speak clearly in both Zapoteco and English, using proper pronunciation and enunciation
• Maintain a professional demeanor and remain calm during interpreting sessions
• Ensure punctuality and availability during work hours
• Follow client instructions and comply with protocol to meet client expectations
• Understand and adapt to various industries' terminology and procedures
• Show cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment
• Be prepared to handle emotionally and/or stressful calls

Requirements

• Fluency in Zapoteco and English with cultural competency
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills
• Ability to remain neutral and objective during sensitive calls
• Education or work experience in language-related fields preferred
• Able to adapt to LLS technology enhancements
• At least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the US
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to read and write the requested languages preferred

• Access to a quiet space free from background noise
• Physical ability to operate a keyboard and mouse
• Manual dexterity to type or write
• Ability to lift up to 26 lbs

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated personal device for business purposes
• Desktop/Laptop Computers with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS operating systems
• Tablets (iPadOS or Android) are acceptable
• Smartphones (iOS or Android) are also acceptable
• Restricted brands: Kaspersky products, Huawei hardware
• High speed Internet connection with download speeds of no less than 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, Ping value of no more than 300 ms, Jitter value of no more than 30 ms
• Access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse and remain in a stationary position in front of a computer the majority of the workday
• Must be able to operate company provided software and systems to perform all aspects of the job
• Must have sufficient manual dexterity to type or write
• Able to lift up to 26 lbs
• May be exposed to moderate noise levels; i.e. computer, audio, telephone
