Description
Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has since expanded to operate across multiple states including the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Thompson's continuum of care includes prevention, mental health services, and foster care, all of which are trauma-informed and evidence-based.
What will you do as a Youth Support Partner?
- Provide education and assistance in navigating child-serving systems (child welfare, education, behavioral/mental health, juvenile justice, school, primary care, etc.)
- Support others working with the youth to understand youth culture
- Aid the youth in understanding and expressing their needs, goals, and decisions
- Model effective behavior for the youth to demonstrate healthy relationships, positive responses to stress and conflict, and positive social skills
- Build relationships with youth in the community in Charlotte and surrounding areas
Typical Day
A typical day as a Youth Support Partner involves providing mentorship to 14-21-year-old youth for 9-12 months, 90 minutes per week, either in-person or virtually, focusing on building relationships in the school, home, and community settings. The schedule is non-traditional, typically from 9 AM to 5 PM, excluding weekends and on-call days.

Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- High school diploma/GED or Associate degree in the Human Services field
- 1 year of experience working with the target population
- Valid Driver’s License and meet any credentialing, licensing, and privileging standards as it pertains to the department you are in
- All potential job candidates must pass a drug screening test, and an extensive background check is required
