Youth Sports Staff – Soccer & Flag Football

Vineyard City is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Youth Soccer/Flag Football Referees and Site Supervisors for games taking place between August 12 and September 27, 2026.

Schedule

• Games occur on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, and Saturdays.
• Weekday games start as early as 4:30 PM and end as late as 8:30 PM.
• Saturday games start as early as 8:00 AM and as late as 3:00 PM.
• Referees are expected to officiate 2-6 games per scheduled shift.
• All games will be held at Vineyard Grove Park or Vineyard Gammon Park.
• Referees and site supervisors should arrive 30-45 minutes prior to the first game and stay 15-30 minutes after the last game for set-up and take-down.

Responsibilities

Referees

• Officiate game play under the supervision of the Vineyard City Recreation Manager, Recreation Coordinators, and Site Supervisors.
• Encourage good sportsmanship.
• Assist in setting up and cleaning up each game day.
• Utilize strong whistles, correct hand signals, and proper positioning to regulate game integrity.
• Participate in pre-season and continual training provided by Vineyard Recreation Staff in March 2026 and throughout the season.
• Receive 1 or 2 performance evaluations during the season.

Site Supervisors

• Direct participants and oversee youth staff.
• Encourage good sportsmanship and resolve conflicts.
• Keep score and act as a sideline official for adult games.
• Assist in setting up and cleaning up each game day.
• Occasionally officiate games.
• Participate in pre-season and continual training provided by Vineyard Recreation Staff in August 2026 and throughout the season.

Requirements

• Applicants must be at least 14 years of age.
• Good public relation and customer service skills.
• Ability to work well with other adults and children in grades K-6.
• Physically able to referee (running).
• Pass a background check & drug test (if age 18+).
• Ability to follow basic safety precautions and procedures.
• Ability to make sound decisions in sometimes stressful environments.
• Prior referee experience preferred but not required.
• Learn and enforce NFHS rules & Vineyard Recreation Youth Soccer rules.
• Ability to work Tuesday evenings, Wednesday evenings, Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings, and/or Saturday afternoons as assigned.

Interview Process

In-person or Zoom interviews will begin the week of August 10th and will be scheduled respecting both the applicant's and Vineyard Recreation's hiring staff availability.
