About the Role

The Jefferson Township Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, and reliable individual to join our Youth Services team. This individual will work with the FT Children’s Librarian to create new and engaging programs for youth ages 0-12.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in developing and maintaining a diverse and well-rounded juvenile collection while staying current on trends in children's literature.
  • Develop, plan, and execute programs and events for children ages 0-12, including story times, youth programs, special events, and summer reading programs.
  • Provide reader’s advisory and reference assistance to young patrons and their caregivers using both digital and print resources.
  • Promote community awareness, build relationships, and promote the library through outreach with community organizations, daycares, and schools.
  • Prepare and distribute promotional materials for youth programs, events, and services.
  • Assist with circulation desk and general library duties, as needed.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent preferred.
  • Will consider a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years’ Youth Services experience, preferably in a public library, required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Knowledge of collection development for children ages 0-12.
  • Able to use computers, software, and other technologies used at a public library.
  • Customer service skills are essential, must be able to respond to and assist patrons on a regular basis.
  • Enjoy working with young children, tweens/teens and their caregivers.
  • Able to work with other staff in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent preferred.

Benefits

  • Vacation, Sick, and Holiday pay provided according to Library Policy, and enrollment in the Defined Contribution Retirement Plan (DCRP) if eligible.

Pay

$22.00/hour with B.A and experience $33.00/ hour with M.LS. (Master of Library Science or equivalent)

Schedule

Approximately 19 hours per week. Individual will be required to work evenings and weekends.
