About the role

The Youth Services Behavioral Specialist (S) works to implement individual and group treatment plans to affect behavioral changes required for youthful offender rehabilitation while providing security, controlling, and safeguarding juveniles from each other. Duties include working at Youth Development Centers or Juvenile Detention Centers with close proximity to court-ordered youth.

Responsibilities

  • Implement individual and group treatment plans to promote behavioral change and rehabilitation
  • Provide security and control over juveniles
  • Safeguard juveniles from each other
  • Work closely with court-ordered youth
  • May require weekend and holiday work

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution
  • Four years of related human services experience
  • Must be physically capable of applying proper methods and procedures to restrain juveniles and defend self
  • Must pass a Criminal Background check, Drug Screening, Psychological test, Sexual Risk Screening, and Physical exam
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 20 years old
  • Must have a valid driver's license

Qualifications

  • Must meet the hiring and training standards established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission
  • Must successfully complete and pass the Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training Certification Program

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with people

Pay

Salary is based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position. Step pay plan applies, with initial salary determined by total months of related education and experience above the minimum requirements.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with work hours varying depending on the facility. Candidates must be able to work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis and be flexible with a variable work schedule.
