About the Role

The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice is a multi-faceted agency serving juveniles of the Commonwealth. While striving to hold youth accountable for their actions, the Department creates opportunities for sentenced, committed, probated, or detained youth to develop social and career skills that equip them for re-entry into their communities as productive and responsible citizens. This position is deemed essential and has been designated for mandatory operations; therefore, the incumbent is not eligible for Adverse Weather Leave. Applicants must successfully pass a physical examination and be able to perform all essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation. The cost of the physical examination will be billed through the employee’s health insurance, with applicable co-pays reimbursed by the department.

Although medical cannabis has been legalized in Kentucky, employees in this position are prohibited from using it due to other applicable state or federal laws.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Youth Worker Supervisors and oversees development of Individual Treatment Plans for youth.
  • Ensures staff formulate and implement appropriate treatment plans.
  • Transports residents to local and statewide medical and court-related appointments.
  • Works closely with the superintendent and other administrative staff.
  • Interviews, recommends, and orients prospective new employees.
  • Conducts employee performance evaluations.
  • Ensures cabinet, department, division, and facility policies and procedures are available to staff and that employees have in-depth knowledge of them.
  • Participates in management of the program; prepares and attends management team meetings; reviews, compiles, and prepares reports and records.
  • Drafts correspondence as required.

Requirements

Education: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

Experience, Training, or Skills: Three years of experience in the supervision and care of young adults (ages 12-21) in a community setting, day treatment, group home, detention, residential, or correctional facility.

Substitute Education for Experience: None.

Substitute Experience for Education: Experience in the supervision and care of young adults (ages 12-21) in a community setting, day treatment, group home, detention, military, residential, or correctional facility will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Two years of this experience must have been as a supervisor in one of these settings.

Pay

Salary range: $61,343.52 - $92,015.04 annually (Pay Grade 17).

Schedule

40 hours per week.

Working Conditions

Typically works in a day treatment, group home, or residential facility.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
