About the role
The Night Watch Youth Mentor is directly responsible for the physical safety and security of each student during nighttime hours, as well as select clerical and custodial duties.
Schedule
- 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Potential split shifts: 10:00 PM – 3:00 AM or 3:00 AM – 7:00 AM
- Days to be determined
- Part-time, 24–32 hours per week
- $1.00/hour shift differential for swing-shift hours (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain boundaries surrounding lights-out and bed-time protocols
- Perform assigned Q10-minute checks
- Enforce student rules as needed
- Chart in each student’s medical record under mentor
- Communicate and report to shift supervisor
- Support and assist all other Telos departments (e.g., nursing, general cleaning and maintenance, answering telephones) as allowed by staffing ratios
- Participate on assigned committees or special assignments
- Assist with runaway retrieval
- Comply with and carry out nighttime building and security protocols
- Complete assigned cleaning chores
- Assist in filing and charting as needed
- Administer medications as needed
Restrictions
- No sleeping while on shift
- Movies and games on computer only if they do not interfere with job duties
- Headphones allowed in one ear only, with volume set to low
Requirements
- Ideal for former athletes, coaches, military personnel, or those comfortable with confrontation and de-escalation
- Strong presence, emotional control, and ability to influence behavior in real time
- Exceptional relationship skills
- Timely, dependable, and reliable
- Ability to hold appropriate boundaries
- Ability to receive and carry out instructions
- Genuine care and concern for others
- Valid driver’s license
- Must pass a background check investigation (BCI)
- College education preferred
