About the role

As a function of the Waupaca County Department of Human Services, the Youth Justice Ongoing Case Manager/Social Worker performs professional functions which provide a wide array of services to the diverse population of Waupaca County residents in the area of Youth Justice. This position works under the direct supervision of the Youth Justice/Foster Care/Kinship Care Manager.

Responsibilities

• Assess reports to determine validity of the report and legal basis for involvement, observing and interviewing family members and collateral contacts.
• Determine, through interviews, assessments, home visits, investigations, etc., the range of services needed by individuals and families; explain the services and discuss the client’s rights and responsibilities.
• Recommend services from other resources, arrange for appointments, and collaborate with those providers to meet the client’s needs.
• Maintain case histories and complete appropriate paperwork according to department policy while maintaining client confidentiality by following HIPAA and Agency confidentiality policies.
• Provide court-related services including preparing and writing court reports, court conditions, testimony, and other related paperwork.
• Assist clients in developing inner strengths and sparks and maximizing informal supports and resources.
• Foster client’s growth by interpreting attitudes and patterns of behavior; explain and identify new options and be strength-based in communication.
• Develop and monitor case plans and provide feedback to clients and other interested parties on follow-up actions as required.
• Participate in on-call rotation.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Youth Justice Manager and/or CPS Manager.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field; Social Work preferred.
• Experience in the area of youth justice, child protective services, and/or ongoing case management.
• Possession of a valid Wisconsin Social Work Certification is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license in the State of Wisconsin and documentation of car insurance.

Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of and ability to apply social work principles and methods, including basic knowledge of human development, neurodevelopmental science, developmental psychopathology, treatment planning, and how to work with vulnerable populations.
• Maintain objectivity and positive outlook while dealing with negative situations using tact and diplomacy while maintaining professionalism.
• Maintain accurate and complete records, keeping up with agency documentation policies and maintaining confidentiality.
• Work independently, making sound, timely decisions and determining when supervision is necessary.
• Manage time effectively, staying organized and prioritizing tasks to keep up with all paperwork demands, including being punctual, reliable, and dependable.
• Manage conflict through the use of motivational interviewing techniques, conflict resolution techniques, and promote open and transparent communication.
• Knowledge of and ability to use computer software and equipment including Outlook, eWIsacwis, and copy machines.
• Comply with all safety regulations, including installing car seats.
• Communicate in English, understand and follow written and oral instructions, and have excellent writing skills.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 20 pounds, understanding and utilizing proper body mechanics.

Pay

$27.22–$34.60/hour
