About the role

The Youth Employment & Activities Coordinator plays a crucial role in promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image among young people aged 14–24 at Grand Street Settlement sites. Reporting to the Program Director, this position oversees employment and attendance programs to foster a positive school-going culture.

Responsibilities

  • Complete NYS OCFS Mandated Reporter and Foundations in Health and Safety training.
  • On-site, day-to-day supervision of programs, services, and activities funded through SYEP.
  • Serve as a liaison to worksites and conduct site visits.
  • Manage SYEP and internship participants, including monitoring activities, ensuring timely and accurate submission of enrollment, payroll, and evaluations.
  • Supervise SYEP Monitor, interns, and participants, maintaining participant files and documenting activities.
  • Prepare periodic reports for the director and program leads, identify and document supportive services, and conduct pre-assessments and weekly assessments.
  • Coordinate and implement school-wide attendance initiatives, create internship opportunities, and oversee the Success Mentoring program.
  • Attend required department/agency meetings and enforce rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • College degree preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience in youth development programs, especially youth employment opportunity programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including the ability to make clear presentations and execute basic math skills.
  • Strong time management, event coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and in various situations.
  • Valid CPR/AED and First Aid/RTE certifications.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Qualifications

  • NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening.
  • New York State Clearance Review Background Check.
  • Three reference checks.
  • Physical with updated TB test (fees may apply).
  • Valid NYC Dept. of Health fingerprint clearance and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance (fees may apply).

SkillsTimeliness, attendance, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, meet deadlines, prioritize activities, and solve problems.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Interpersonal skills, both in person and on the phone.
  • Professionalism and sensitivity to participants' cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Benefits

    Salary range: $48,000 - $50,000 per year.

    Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 am - 4 pm / 9 am - 5 pm, some late evenings and weekends.
