About the role

The role involves providing direction for the afterschool program, overseeing its daily operations, and implementing YMCA-approved curriculum. The position also entails ensuring the safety and well-being of children, managing site operations, and engaging with parents.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the designated Texas Childcare Licensing Site Director, ensuring compliance with YMCA Houston and state regulations.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the afterschool program, maintaining a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Maintain the program site and equipment, assist with setup and breakdown, and clean the program area.
  • Ensure the safety and security of children and staff, monitor activities, and address behavioral issues.
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques and adapt activities to meet diverse needs.
  • Conduct regular safety drills and inspections, follow organizational policies, and report concerns.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities, evaluate program effectiveness, and develop strategies for program growth and retention.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate regularly with parents.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining enrollment records and signing in/out children.
  • Follow YMCA competencies and adhere to policies related to child protection, confidentiality, and boundaries.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 70 clock hours of training in child or youth development, recreational leadership or management.
  • Two (2) college courses equivalent to 100 clock hours.
  • Minimum Standard #744.1017.
  • One (1) year experience working with youth at a licensed facility, church, school, or equivalent.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience supervising others preferred.
  • Current record of tuberculosis examination and/or current local health department regulations, examinations, and/or immunization as required by the local or State Department of Health.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated interest in the welfare of children; prior childcare or baby-sitting experience is preferred.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.

Schedule

Before/After School: Part-time, typically Monday-Friday, morning shift 6:30 am – 8:30 am, afternoon shift 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm (start and end time may vary). Program runs concurrently with ISD calendar. May be required to work Saturday's occasionally. Camp: Typically Monday-Friday, 6:30 am – 6:30 pm with a morning, afternoon and evening shift option (start and end time may vary). Camps run concurrently with ISD calendar breaks. Position will default to a Youth Development Counselor during Camp Seasons unless the employee applies for an alternative position. May be required to work Saturday's occasionally.

Must be available to attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
