About the role

The Youth Development Coach position is part of the Breakthrough Youth Network and focuses on providing instruction and support to students in grades kindergarten through 8th grade in the Nettie Bailey Student Achievement After School Program, Summer Day Camp Program, and enrichment-related programs.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate activities for the students in the out-of-school programs.
  • Aid in managing student behavior.
  • Collaborate with the BYN team to plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom strategies.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and stimulating environment for students.
  • Assist with data entry in Salesforce, Cityspan, and other databases.
  • Assist with classroom and building clean-up.
  • Participate in special events and Breakthrough-wide events.
  • Attend team meetings and other cross-departmental collaborations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and/or over 1 year of experience working with school-aged children.
  • Comfort and skill using basic computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • An accurate and informed understanding of cultural and urban realities, especially as related to youth, families, poverty, and community development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and problem-solving ability.
  • The ability to use initiative, discretion, and independent judgment.
  • A passion for the mission of Breakthrough.

Supervision

This position has no direct reports.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Work Environment: Office and/or classroom in a multi-purpose facility and/or outdoors.
  • Physical Demands: Frequent walking, sitting, reaching, balancing, stooping, bending, pulling, lifting, standing for long periods, and adhering to proper lifting techniques.
  • Specific Vision Abilities: Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusting focus.

Benefits

  • Sick leave: 1 hour of sick pay for every 35 hours worked in a pay period.
  • Paid leave: 1 hour of paid pay for every 35 hours worked in a pay period.
  • Schedule: 40 hours/week; occasional weekends and evening hours.
  • Program Area: Church and Volunteer Engagement.

About the role

The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator position supports the Volunteer and Church Engagement team at Breakthrough. This role involves administrative tasks, program support, and event coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Administer daily email responses and volunteer application notifications.
  • Maintain and update Salesforce records for volunteers.
  • Coordinate volunteer onboarding and background checks.
  • Manage volunteer communication needs and assist with the website.
  • Track church activity and revenue, and manage volunteer match, intern onboarding, and university tracking systems.
  • Represent Breakthrough at churches, events, and recruit new volunteers and donors.
  • Support volunteer recruitment and create seasonal spreadsheets for tracking progress.
  • Provide volunteer check-ins and end-of-season communication.
  • Assist with Breakthrough’s annual events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree OR a combination of college coursework and related experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a nonprofit or church setting.
  • Flexible hours (nights and weekends semi-regularly required).
  • Excellent organizational abilities, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), Google Suite, and Salesforce.
  • Understanding urban realities with a strong passion for connecting churches and volunteers with those affected by poverty.
  • Cross-cultural competency: sensitivity to serving in a diverse, urban context.
  • A valid driver’s license and daily access to a vehicle with an acceptable driving record.
