About the role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Wound and Ostomy Registered Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will establish satisfactory interpersonal relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and co-workers, while delivering exceptional care and education to individuals with wound and ostomy needs. This role requires strong communication skills, ethical decision-making, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Initiate communication with patients and families to assess individual needs.
- Provide detailed patient education during inpatient stays and at discharge, following prescribed teaching plans.
- Respond effectively to verbal and non-verbal communications from patients, families, colleagues, supervisors, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Collaborate with co-workers and colleagues across disciplines to exchange ideas and share information about patient care activities.
- Make ethical decisions and actions on behalf of patients.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the values of self and others.
- Involve patients and families in the plan of care while respecting their cultural, spiritual, and other belief systems.
Skills
- Language Skills: Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships across teams.
- Physical Demands: Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, bending, and occasional repetitive motions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to ensure patient care is not compromised.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Active NYS RN License.
- Basic Life Support Certification (BCLS).
- Wound Care Certification preferred.
- Master’s degree in nursing preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in wound and ostomy care or related specialty.
- Wound and Ostomy Certification preferred.
