Wound And Ostomy Care Nurse (PRN) Nursing Administration

Essential Functions

• Serves as primary educator for all patients undergoing ostomy surgery.
• Assesses ostomy patients returning to the hospital regarding:
  • At‑home management of ostomy
  • Knowledge level regarding ostomy care
  • Problems in ostomy management of psychosocial rehabilitation
• Provides consultation and direct assistance to nursing staff in the management of patients with altered skin integrity secondary to drainage or pressure necrosis.
• Assists staff in maintaining current knowledge and competence in ostomy care, draining wound management, and skin care.
• Helps analyze stock items and mattresses and makes recommendations to supply chain regarding equipment for ostomy, wound, and skin care.
• Participates in data collection for research studies involving pressure sores, incontinence, and ostomy diversions.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited registered nursing program.
• Must possess a valid South Carolina or compact (multi‑state) RN license.
• Active Basic Life Support certification, as well as additional certifications per unit requirements.
• Certified in wound care within 2 years (WOCN or WCC).
