Workers' Compensation Paralegal

The Paralegal supports the Workers' Compensation attorneys throughout all stages of a claim, from case initiation through hearing and appeal. Responsibilities include drafting and filing pleadings, managing case filings and evidence, communicating with clients and external parties, preparing and drafting case documents and correspondence, ensuring compliance with Nevada Workers' Compensation rules and regulations, and supporting attorneys with legal research and document preparation.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, appeals, and correspondence with administrative agencies.
  • File evidence, appeals, and all other filings through the E-Flex electronic filing system, including creating E-Flex submissions for rejected filings (with commissions).
  • Prepare settlement/resolution documents (SROs) for attorney review, printing, and signature.
  • Prepare documents for attorney review and approval.
  • Ensure compliance with Nevada Workers' Compensation rules and regulations.
  • Assign and follow up with case managers (CMs) on compliance tasks; meet with and assist CMs as needed.
  • Review case files and projects for discrepancies and make corrections.
  • Provide case timelines for more complex appeals (AO) matters.
  • Call and correspond with clients, including discussing case options and resolving issues.
  • Communicate with adjusters, medical providers, opposing counsel, and the courts.
  • Draft, compose, and mail client correspondence, including withdrawal letters and closing letters.
  • Correspond with and support attorneys throughout all stages of the case.
  • Review decisions and orders with attorneys.
  • Conduct legal and medical research as needed to support case preparation.
  • Prepare discovery responses and hearing exhibits.
  • Manage attorney calendars and track the opposing counsel (OC) calendar.
  • Schedule hearings, appointments, and client signings, and coordinate with staff to ensure timely case progression.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1+ years of paralegal experience.
  • Nevada Workers' Compensation experience preferred but not required.
  • Preferred: Experience serving as a hearing advocate for injured workers at Nevada Hearing Officer-level proceedings (under attorney supervision).
  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent legal experience.
  • Strong understanding or ability to learn Workers' Compensation laws, procedures, and terminology.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle a large caseload.
  • Proficiency with case management software (SmartAdvocate experience a plus).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.
