Workers Compensation Analyst

About the role

The WC Analyst receives first notice of injuries from stores via Nurse Triage Reporting, email, or phone call. This position maintains constant communication with injured workers, stores, insurance companies, medical providers, and any involved attorneys. The analyst coordinates modified duties, reviews and approves medical bills, and generates reports for senior management.

Responsibilities

• Daily data entry into the Workers Compensation log and database (WCCMS).
• Set up initial injury files and determine if claims need to be reported to the insurance company (Medical Only, Indemnity, or non-industrial).
• Investigate new losses and report to TPA/Carrier with supportive documentation.
• Manage all losses for two districts and collaborate with the TPA.
• Serve as liaison between Operations and TPA for workers compensation claims.
• Participate in claims review with the insurance carrier/TPA.
• Document file activities and maintain an effective diary management system.
• Coordinate return-to-work programs with injured workers, stores, and TPA.
• Maintain updated medical status on all open files.
• Daily communication with injured workers, stores, and insurance companies.
• Generate weekly reports on modified duty status and other reports as needed by senior management.
• Support adjusters and defense counsel in securing documents for discovery.
• Log new claims into Open Claims for the pertaining month.
• Follow up with store management, vendors, and injured workers daily.
• Review files for closure and request claim status updates.
• Review and document claim work status reports.
• Provide Human Resources with updated information affecting their departments.
• Provide monthly charge-back reports to the CFO.
• Review and analyze video surveillance for all injuries and attach results to claim folders.
• Advise Loss Prevention on issues with store video systems.
• Participate in WC presentations as needed.
• Assist the Risk Department in maintaining optimal efficiency.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (College Degree preferred).
• Professional Certification (WCCA/WCCP) desirable.
• 2-5 years of experience handling Workers Compensation claims.
• 1-3 years of experience with a Self-Insured employer.

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
• Experience managing a claims database system.
• Typing speed of 35 WPM.
• Experience with 10-key, fax, and multi-line phone systems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle delicate situations and maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other departments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Pay

$28.00 to $33.00 per hour.
