WORK STUDY – PUBLIC PROGRAMS ASSISTANT

Duration: Academic Term
Availability: Four hours weekly, preferably in one shift; days and times are flexible. Occasional evening hours may be required to support public programs.

About the role

The Public Programs Assistant supports the administrative, and at select times, on-site production of ICP’s public programs, including book events, film screenings, lectures, and community programs. The ideal candidate is reliable, communicative, and comfortable engaging courteously with the public in both online and in-person settings. Students will gain hands-on experience in program production, research, and contemporary conversations surrounding photography and visual culture.

Responsibilities

  • Research public programming at local and international institutions, contemporary issues in photography, and museum practices.
  • Prepare weekly visual and written materials for public programs, including updating signage, welcome slideshows, and the public programs schedule.
  • Support outreach efforts and maintain event listings for upcoming programs.
  • Attend at least one public program each month to assist with event set-up and documentation.
  • Review footage from public programs and identify key talking points for post-event videos and marketing materials.

Requirements

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort interacting with the public in a professional and welcoming manner.
  • Interest in public programming, contemporary photography, event production, or museum engagement.

Qualifications

Only currently enrolled One-Year Certificate (OYC) students are eligible to apply. All applicants will be reviewed by the OYC Program Coordinator to confirm enrollment and eligibility. After submitting an application, students will be asked to rank their work-study preferences. This information will be used during the placement process.
